Generative AI animation (Stable Diffusion + Runway) depicting 1980s/90s TV-style scenes of people "having VERY wacky fun," edited into a montage, run through a glitch box, and recorded to VHS tape twice to cultivate degraded analog warmth. Laughtrack doubled over itself for "waves of laughter." Featured in Fakewhale Gallery on Objkt.

Token Description
Generative AI animation recorded to VHS video tape. 640x480 .MP4
“Wacky fun” is a phrase that describes a type of enjoyment that is:
Absurd and silly: It’s not your everyday kind of fun. It’s offbeat, zany, and maybe even a little strange. Think banana peels, whoopie cushions, and unexpected custard pie fights.
Unconventional and playful: There’s no set way to have wacky fun. It’s all about embracing the unusual and doing things in a non-serious, lighthearted way. Think speaking gibberish, wearing mismatched socks, or building a fort out of couch cushions.
Uninhibited and joyful: Wacky fun is about letting loose and enjoying the moment without worrying about being proper or perfect. It’s about laughing until your sides ache and embracing the ridiculous. Think impromptu dance parties, water balloon fights, or telling silly jokes with friends.
Unexpected and surprising: The best kind of wacky fun is when you don’t see it coming. It’s a spontaneous burst of laughter and delight that catches you off guard. Think finding a hidden treasure map, discovering a secret passage, or witnessing a dog wearing sunglasses.
Process Notes
AI Animation is finally getting to the point where I can create an ALMOST believable animation of people doing things.
To create this piece, I generated thousands of still images using Stable Diffusion. I created images that mimicked 1980s/90s television shows and I made sure to specify that the images should feature “people having VERY wacky fun.”
I curated a selection of still images and animated them using Runway to generate 4-second animations and edited them together into a montage.
I ran that video out of a computer with HDMI, converted the video signal into analog video and sent it into a glitch box to apply a light glitch effect and recorded it to VHS tape. I took that VHS tape and dubbed it onto another VHS tape to cultivate the degraded video quality we’re familiar with when we watch old home-recorded VHS tapes.
I took a classic laughtrack sample and I doubled it up over itself to create waves of laughter. I added some audio filters to create the effect of broadcast television audio.
