Contribution to the Water Margin collaborative collection. 108 artists each received a character nickname from the classic Chinese novel to interpret in their own style. Max’s assigned character: Fiery Thunderbolt (Qin Ming), “Fierce Star of the Heavens.”
The project examines semantic loss in mass communication — from detailed Chinese originals to English translations, from translations to short phrases, and from phrases to images.
