artist makes a work incorporating ashes. burns that work. sends ashes to another artist. repeat. repeat. repeat… till there’s too much time and space between the burning stars and all the lights go out.”
Short looping video of a stick/branch effigy sculpture — a rough humanoid figure built from dried brush, standing in an arid field with shrubs in the California Sierra Nevada foothills. 12a is the art object (the effigy, before burning). Its companion piece, ashes 12b - NOTHING BURNS LIKE AN EFFIGY, documents the burning.
About ashes2ashes
The ashes2ashes project was conceptualized by @kells (Kelly Burns). An artist makes a work incorporating ashes, burns that work, and sends the ashes to the next artist — who repeats the cycle. Max Capacity is participant #12. One edition of each companion work was gifted directly to @kells.tez as part of the project exchange.
